About Us

Before we where PickleRat Rattery we where only breeding for our snakes. We started with two rats, Pickle and Peanut, both purchased from a feeder bin. Little did we know that these two would ignite our passion for rats! We quickly fell in love with their intelligence and unique personalities, and from there, our journey began.Today, we are a small-scale operation focused on ensuring that every rat—whether destined to be a beloved pet or a feeder—receives the same level of care and affection. Why Picklerat?
The name "Picklerat" is in honor of Pickle, one of the first rats we ever owned. He was the sweetest little guy and the one who sparked our love for rats. Although Pickle has passed on, his memory lives on in the name of our rattery. We knew it was the perfect way to commemorate the start of our journey and share our wonderful rats with others.

In loving memory of Pickle.

Frequently Asked Questions!

Q: How many rats should I have or get?A: We recommend always purchasing rats in pairs, especially if you’re adding to an existing group or providing a companion for an older rat that is now alone.Q: What bedding should I use?A: Suitable bedding options include wood shavings such as aspen, kiln-dried pine, hemp, paper-based, or fleece bedding. If using wood shavings, ensure they are dust-free or sifted to minimize respiratory issues.Q: My new rat is sneezing. Is that normal?A: Sneezing can occur as rats adjust to new environments and the different smells they encounter. However, if the sneezing persists or is accompanied by honking or chirping sounds, this could indicate a respiratory infection. In such cases, it’s important to consult a veterinarian promptly to prevent the condition from worsening.
